Barbara Jane (Cody) Gotcher of Flint, Texas age 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5,  2025 with her daughter by her side at East Texas Hospice of Tyler, TX after a very short illness. 

Barbara was born at home in the Basin Springs community north of Sadler, Texas on June 4, 1940 to Rev. Carrol and Glennis (Greene) Cody. She was named after her great-grandmother, America Jane Siebman an early settler of Basin Springs and the actress, Barbara Stanwyck. She was born 11 ½ months after her brother and it was a running joke that for two weeks they were the same age. They looked enough alike they were often mistaken for twins  Where you would find Jimmy, Barbara wouldn’t be far behind including climbing trees. 

She was a 1958 graduate of Sadler High School where she well known for her academic and athletic skills. She served as Student Council Vice President, was on Annual and School Paper staff, and a member of FHA. She played basketball all four years of high school and frequently top scorer. She was on the homecoming court her Junior year. She was a bit of a tomboy growing up which served her well as she became an adult and was working. There was nothing she didn’t try to fix or do. If a man can do it -   she could too. She was an inspiration to many of the girls in the family

She was very active in the Bullard Eastern Star, Chapter #972 and was Worthy Matron twice  She belonged to Sharuhan Temple 127 Daughters of the Nile and was a past Queen for the Nile. She was a  member of the Jeep Ladies of Sharuhan Shiners. She was the Chairman of the Sewing Day of the  Sharuhan Temple 127. This group makes toys, hats and blankets for the babies and children of the  Shriner’s hospital in Shreveport. She was a member of the Cotton Belt Rail Historical Society. She was always willing to make her infamous deviled eggs for any “to do”. Once her sister called to ask what she  was doing and she was making 12 dozen deviled eggs just for that week.  

Barbara also served as President for the past seven years of the Basin Springs Cemetery Board. She  worked alongside others that were much younger during cleaning and documenting the cemetery. She even teased one of the nephews that he wasn’t hitting a stake hard enough and hit like a girl. She grabbed the hammer and hammered it into the ground with just a couple of blows. 

Barbara was one of the organizers for the biannual High School class reunions held on Mother’s Day during the odd years in Sadler.  

Barbara married Norman Glynn Gotcher on May 28, 1976 in Greenville, TX. For a short time they had  food truck at Canton during Trade Days.  

Barbara was formally employed as secretary at Bullard Methodist Church and was active as a member of the church, Sunday school and Women’s Bible study groups. She was Chairman of the Camelette Ladie and Bullard Methodist Women’s group. She retired from Tyler Board of Realtors as their bookkeeper in 2007.  

She is survived by her daughter, Teri Kale and husband, Mark of Frisco, TX; granddaughter, Elizabeth and  husband Kyle Roach of McKinney and grandson, Garrett Kale and fiancé, Maddie Slater and two great grandsons Brooks and Cal Roach of McKinney. She is also survived by her brother, Jimmy (Julia) Cody of  Sadler; sisters Mary (James “Jim”) Anderson of Arlington and Susan (Michael “Mike”) Moody of Sadler’  five nieces, Jamie (Steve) Miller, Gayle (Chris) Chance, Christina (Chris) Schuttler, Heather (Jon) Matys and Sarah Moody; six grandnieces and two grandnephews Sandra (TJ) Davis, Laura and Leah House,  Becca Reed, Alexis and Maisy Matys, Austen Cody, Robert and Emma Schuttler; three great grandnieces and two great grandnephews as well as many cousins. She is also survived by her dear friends and neighbors, Joe, Jeanne, Carol and Melissa Johnston, of Flint. Barbara was predeceased by her parents,  her husband, Glynn, infant daughter, Lynda Jane Hardcastle and nephew, Robert Cody.  

The family wishes to extend their greatest appreciation to the staff at Christus Medical Center and Hospice of East Texas for the care extended to Barbara.  

Arrangements are to be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 2 pm at Boren-Conner Funeral Home at  550 Doctor M Roper Parkway in Bullard, Texas. Visitation will be at Boren-Conner Friday, February 14, 2025 from 6 to 8 pm.
