With her son Ed by her side, Billie Joyce Sherman of Jacksonville, Texas passed from this life on April 13th, 2021 at her home. Billie was 87 years of age. Billie was born on the 5th day of May 1933 to parents Osborn and Ocie Hassell in Maydelle, Texas. Ms. Sherman attended Maydelle High School Graduating Salutatorian of her class in 1950. She also played basketball and was voted most beautiful. After graduation she attended Scott and White and University of Texas receiving her nursing degree. She was Director of Nursing at Memorial Hospital in Palestine. She also served as school nurse in Navasota, Palestine and Jacksonville, Texas.
Ms. Sherman enjoyed cooking and traveling. She was a lifelong Baptist and attended Craft Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo Sherman, Sister Yvonne Lightsey, granddaughter Heather Green, great-granddaughter Emmi Jo Green and Carlye E. Jorgensen, dad to her sons.
Billie is survived by her brother Edward (Gwen) Hassell of Dialville, sons Ed (Shelah) Jorgensen of Jacksonville, Mark (Brenda) Jorgensen of Elkhart, grandson, Hayden Jorgenson, great-granddaughters Cami and Tori Green of Tenaha, Texas, stepsons Rusty (Connie) Sherman and Rick Sherman of Maydelle.
Sherman grandchildren Christine (Erik) Tirado, Paragould, Arkansas, Matthew Sherman, Henderson, Texas, Amy Kinsey (Cody) of Cleburne, Leigha Sherman of Colorado, Jill O’Reilly of Cypress, Texas and Vicki Gable and their families.
Brother-in-law Pug Lightsey of Jacksonville and sister-in-law Anna May (B.T) Dickson of Teague, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews,
Billie is also survived by her “little buddies” Bentley Wayne and Briar Joe Griffin who made her smile until the end.
Services will be at Boren-Conner Funeral Home on Thursday, April 15th at 10:30 a.m. with her nephew, Keith Hassell officiating. Private graveside services following at Mt. Comfort Cemetery in Maydelle, Texas.
