Bobbie Ruth Dykes embraced her Savior as she gave up the pains of life on Friday afternoon, November 20, 2020 in Tyler at the age of 80 years old.
She was born October 19, 1940 in Camp County, Texas to J.B. and Johnnie Davis Taylor of Leesburg, Texas.
Bobbie was a graduate of Chapel Hill High School in 1958, and in later years drove a commercial truck delivering oil field equipment. In 1996 she returned to school and graduated as an LVN from Tyler Junior College and found joy in taking care of people at local nursing homes. While caring for her parents, she found her passion in helping others. Another passion she possessed was gardening. It was rumored that she could “stick a hoe handle” in the ground and it would sprout. She was well known for her big heart, giving her vegetables to neighbors and family, as she always grew more than she needed. She was also an avid cook, having every new utensil for her kitchen. She never stuck to tradition, as seafood for Christmas dinner became an expectation from the family.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her father, J.B. Taylor, and her mother Johnnie Taylor. Bobbie leaves behind three sons; Randy and wife Judy Dykes of Jacksonville, Richard Dykes of Arkansas, and Rodney Dykes of Tyler, two granddaughters, Brandy Hill of Tyler, Kayla Watkins and husband Brennan of Horatio, Arkansas, great grandson, Carson Hill, and great granddaughter, Brenley Katherine Watkins, and two nephews, Chris and Brandon Taylor. She will also be missed by her brother, James Taylor, with whom she shared a home during the last years of her life.
The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff of UT Health Tyler for the exceptional care they provided for Bobbie during her transition to her home in Glory.
Her long time wish was to be cremated instead of a burial, as were her parents. There will be no services, just a remembrance of the life she shared with so many people.
Arrangements are under the care of Boren Conner funeral home.
