“Grumps”

Dale Lee Mangold, 76 of Bullard, Texas, a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, passed away at Hospice of East Texas Home Place in Tyler, Texas November 27, 2024.

Dale was born in Pekin, Illinois November 10, 1948 to Frank and Minnie Sackett Mangold of Delavan, Illinois. The family moved to Quasqueton, Iowa where he grew up. He was a 1966 graduate of East Buchanan High School in Winthrop, Iowa and attended Iowa State University.

On July 31, 1968 at the age of 19, Dale enlisted in the United State Air Force, attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, and retired August 30, 1990.  In December 1983 he was a distinguished graduate of Class 78-E SAC Non-Commissioned Officer Academy and in March 1984 he received an Associates in Applied Science – Avionics Systems Technology.  

Dale is survived by his wife Denna of Bullard, sister Carolyn Corrigan of Nixa, Missouri, sister Pat Spaight (Lynne Brooke) of Carolina Beach, North Carolina, Step-son Shane Colston (Staci) of Bullard, Step-son Kyle Colston (Stacy) of Austin, Texas, Nieces Kelly Becker (John Elkins) of West Plains, Missouri, Jenny Fields of Apex, North Carolina, nephew Ryan Spaight of Lexington, Kentucky, and grandchildren who affectionately called him Grumps; Caitlyn Bussell (Chase) of Flint, Texas, Kenzie Colston of Bullard, Texas,  Cade Colston of Fort Collins, Colorado, Brady Colston of Waco, Texas, and Kylee Colston of Austin, Texas.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Noonday Baptist Church, visitation at 10 am, service at 11.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX  75701 or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306.
