Duane Edwin Campbell

Duane Edwin Campbell passed away peacefully on February 14, 2022, in Jacksonville, Texas, at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family.  Duane was born August 28, 1931, on a farm in Hobart, Oklahoma, to James Edwin “Jamie” Campbell and Vera Minnie (Ellis) Campbell.

Duane served in the U.S. Army’s 45th combat battalion during the Korean War.  He then attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating with a degree in petroleum engineering.  He then worked as an engineer at Natural Gas Pipeline Company for the next 40 years.

Duane was a deeply Christian man who was very active in the Southern Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and teaching Sunday school classes for all his adult life.

On August 31, 1957, he married the love of his life, Patty Jan Davidson, in Bridgeport, Texas.  They eventually settled in Fritch, Texas, and called it home for the next 60 years.  They had four children together, Ruby Jean “Jeannie” Graves, Stanley Neal Campbell, Timothy Alan Campbell and Gale Edwin Campbell.

After his retirement, Duane had coffee every day with his friends at the local coffee shop, played golf, studied history, and served in the church.  Nothing, however, brought Duane more joy than the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ruby Lavon Kenney, his daughter, Ruby Jean “Jeannie” Graves, and his granddaughter, Leah Graves.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patty Jan (Davidson) Campbell of Rusk, Texas; sons Stanley Neal (Holly) Campbell of Rusk, Texas, Timothy Alan (Heather) Campbell of Rolling Hills Estates, California, and Gale Edwin Campbell of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Monique Graves (Kevin Hamilton) of Decatur, Texas, Stanley Neal (Alicia) Campbell II of Whitehouse, Texas, Laura Leigh (Ben) Fenton of Waxahachie, Texas, Kathryn Sue (Omar) Velasco of Whitehouse, Texas, John Thomas Campbell of Atlanta, Georgia, Gabrielle Elizabeth Campbell of Rolling Hills Estates, California, and Christopher Hayden Campbell of Rolling Hills Estates, California; and great-grandchildren Ruby Jean Sponsellor, Tuesday Tanner, Seraphin, Nathan and Aanyiah Hamilton, Locke Fenton, and Dresden, Elodie, Caspian and Cordelia Campbell.

Duane was a truly kind and loving man and will be missed by all who knew him.
