Gay Atwood Hutchins “Granny”, 78, of Whitehouse passed away on November 15, 2024, at her home with her loving family at her side. Gay was born on November 7, 1946, in Tyler, Texas to B.J. “Rusty” Atwood and Virginia Tisdale Atwood, and was raised in Whitehouse. She worked at Southwestern Bell as a phone operator for 37 years until her retirement in 2004. Gay was an avid animal lover and took in any animal in need including but not limited to stray cats and possums. Gay will be remembered for her witty sense of humor and her ability to make everyone around her laugh. She loved her family more than anything in the world and was the best mother, mother-in-law, Granny, aunt, and sister. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Gay is preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Gordon Atwood and Sammy Atwood. She is survived by her son Mark Martin and wife Shellie of Lindale, daughter-in-law Meleaha Morton and husband Craig of Flint, granddaughter Malloree “Tee” Thornton and husband John of Whitehouse and grandson Mason Martin of Whitehouse, great-granddaughters, Aubree and Sydnee Thornton of Whitehouse and Tatum and Tymber Martin of Alvin, nieces, Staci Atwood Scott, Stephani Atwood Brown, Shawna Atwood Daughtry and Amanda Atwood, nephew Josh Atwood, sister in laws Claudia Atwood and Trish Graham and many great nieces and nephews. A private memorial service for the immediate family will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice and Home Instead for the care and comfort they have provided.
