He served in the US Navy for 2 years during the Korean War. Afterwards, he had many jobs in his life from commercial and residential construction to driving Coke and Dr. Pepper delivery trucks to make ends meet. In 1957, he began working for Cameron Iron Works in Houston. He started as a tool grinder in the shop and worked his way up to a tool and die design engineer in 1972. He retired from Cameron in 1988 after 31 years of service.
He began serving God in his early 20’s and his love for God and his brothers and sisters in Christ continued until his death. He loved having church meetings in his home as long as he was able for them. The spirit of kindness, love and care he showed to others was evident by everyone. While Polly was in the nursing home for 6 ½ year with Alzheimer’s, he would visit her everyday from 11-3 to feed her lunch and keep her company. When Jimmy entered the nursing home in 2020, he was greeted at the door by employees who remembered his dedication to Polly.
