John Proctor Mathis

1926-2023

Family and Friends will join together in Jacksonville, Texas to celebrate the life of John Proctor Mathis on February 6, 2023.

John Proctor Mathis was born in Dallas, Texas on December 7, 1926, to Bess Ruth Myers Mathis and William Oscar Mathis.

Early years were spent at the Family Farm in Palo Pinto County, then back to Dallas. After High School he joined the U.S. Navy near the end of World War II. He completed his college education at the University of Texas. Then attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston where he received his medical degree, (anesthesiology).

Thereafter, came back to Dallas where he practiced at Baylor University Medical Center for 37 years before retirement.

Married East Texan, Janet Newton in 1966. Had two children, John Scott Mathis and Jill Ann Mathis (Danesh Hussain).

Survived by all of the above plus grandson, Ayden Mathis Hussain.
