Mary Lee Purser was born December 19, 1970 and passed away April 25, 2021. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, wife and friend to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her father, Gilbert Hargrave and is survived by her mother, Ruby Hargrave, husband John Purser, daughters Jillian Clay and Emily Hulsey, stepchildren Elizabeth Cogdill and Jeremy Purser, granddaughter Ridley Flores, eight siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews. Known for her infectious smile, big heart, and even bigger laugh, the only thing she loved more than a good fishing trip was an even better fishing tale. Mary taught history at Travis Middle School in Port Lavaca, TX and at Nacogdoches High School in Nacogdoches, TX and loved her students. A fellow teacher said, “She always had a funny story about almost any subject that ever came up.” Mary never met a stranger and had a special affection for strays (two or four legs), knowing she had the secret to giving them another chance. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Humane Society of Houston. Memorial Service will be at the Chapel at Pool Cemetery in Richards, TX on Saturday, May 15, at 12:00 PM.
