was trained to be an air traffic controller. He worked in San Antonio, New Orleans & Shreveport.
In 1970, he returned to Dialville to live and started working at Pounds Field airport in Tyler.
Never a man to have only one job, he also began working as a deputy for his lifelong friend and
Cherokee County Sheriff, John Bill Slover. In the late 70s he got his real estate license and after
a few years Max, Frank Howell, and John Rosser opened Delta Realty on the square in Rusk
until late 1980. In 1981, with a strike looming by the air traffic controllers union, Max retired in
February just before the strike began. On March 1, 1981 he opened Max Thomason Bail Bonds
which is still operating 42 years later. In his spare time, he raised cattle, grew hay, worked his
farm, and enjoyed spending time with family and raising rat terrier (spot dog) puppies.
