PERSON WILLIAM (PW) COTTON
Went home to see his Lord and Savior April 19, 2023.
PW was born July 25, 1939 in Mart, Tx to Horace Cotton and Edna Faye Person Cotton. He grew up in Frosa , Tx. where he learned the value of hard work, helping his dad take loads of cotton to the gin, driving a tractor at a young age and spending that time talking with the Lord. PW was saved on one of those trips to the gin and faithfully served the Lord ever since.
He graduated high school at Prairie Hill in 1957 and moved to Dallas Texas to find work and seek Gods will for his life. He worked at Texas Instruments several years obtaining a high security clearance for projects being developed and made. PW went to Proctor and Gamble where he worked until his retirement in 1999. There he worked in the lab, mixing and working on various aspects of warehouse designs. He traveled to various plants all over the United States for Proctor and Gamble. He worked many years in Greensboro, NC. until his retirement.
PW and his wife Sherry owned and operated Sherry's Gift Shop in Palestine for many years.
PW attended Dallas Bible College and Dallas Business School. He spent most of his life serving the Lord in many ways, preaching, teaching or sharing Gods love for us and Jesus great sacrifice on the cross for our salvation. PW loved his Lord, family and friends with all his heart. He was a very gentle, kind, humble and loving gentleman with a longing to serve the Lord. PW was a member of Southside Baptist Church located in Palestine Texas.
From 2009-2020 PW and wife Sherry ministered to the residents of Cartmell Home now Legacy, holding church services on Sunday mornings where he shared the word of God through preaching and music. PW had a great love for the residents and their needs. He truly missed getting to continue this ministry due to Covid in 2020 which stopped visitors.
He was preceded in death by his parents Horace and Edna Faye, first wife Linda, brother Jerry and his beloved Aunt Jean.
He is survived by his wife Sherry Jeffus Cotton of 22 years, Brother Jimmy Cotton and Karen of Robinson, Tx. Sister in law Janet Cotton of Cayuga, Son Gary Cotton and Cindy, Daughter Diana Stuffers and Richard, Daughter Donna Mosley and Craig all of Palestine. Seven Grand Children; Candice Earley, Brandon Stringfield, Matthew Cotton, Dustin Quick, Mitchell Mayo, Monica Gallup and Dylan Mayo and ten Great Grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Honoring his request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A family graveside will be held at Antioch Cemetery in Lovelady, Tx. In lieu of flowers please give to
