Robert Freeman Morgan

Robert Freeman Morgan, of Granbury, Texas, passed away on July 5th at the Dallas VA Medical Center after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 72.

Robert was born January 8, 1950, in Nettleton, Mississippi and soon after moved with his family to Dallas, Texas. Robert attended Grapevine High School with the class of 1968.

He enlisted in the U.S Army in 1968 and was initially stationed in Germany when he volunteered to go to Chu Lai Vietnam to be near his brother, Jack. Here, he fought heroically alongside his H Troop, 17th Armored Cavalry, 198th Infantry Brigade, Americal (23rd Infantry) Division brothers until he was honorably discharged in 1971, and was awarded a Bronze Star.

He later attended Stephen F Austin State University, Nacogdoches, Texas, where he studied Agricultural Engineering. He met and married the mother of his children, Rhonda Lindsey, and became a proud and devoted father to Ryan Michael in 1984, and Caitlin Ann in 1990.

Robert was a skilled craftsman and never met a project he couldn’t complete; he worked as a construction tradesman and in construction management, working on projects in DFW and across the U.S until his retirement in 2010. After retirement, he enjoyed travelling, gardening, and spending time with his emotional support dog, Quickie. As his illness progressed, he rehomed Quickie to his bonus granddaughter, Kinsey Corey.

He loved country music, fishing, and hunting; these passions were amplified when he became able to share them with his children and grandchildren. Robert was a generous and loving man, who will be profoundly missed by those he left behind on Earth. We take solace that he is no longer in pain and is rejoicing in heaven with those that preceded him.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Pearl Hammac and William Jackson Morgan Sr., and his eldest brother, Richard Morgan.

Left to honor and remember his love are Robert’s children, Ryan Morgan (Lauren), and Caitlin Koket (David); beloved grandchildren, Chase Morgan, Luke Morgan, and Parker Koket. He is survived by his siblings, Anita Mead (Brett), Jack Morgan (Toni), and Dale Morgan (Shelly). He also had many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 16th at 12PM at the VFW Post 9168 in Lewisville, Texas. Graveside burial at DFW National Cemetery August 12th at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Robert’s memory to the Disabled American Veterans Charity or the American Cancer Society.
