Thomas Luther Roper

Farewell services to honor a life well lived for Thomas Luther Roper, 68, of Bullard, will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at The First United Methodist Church of Bullard, with David Brasher officiating. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am, the service will follow at 11:00 am and a Masonic ceremony will be held graveside at the Bullard Cemetery.Tom was called Home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 19, 2018 after suffering a medical emergency. He fought a hard fight, but his earthly body was ultimately unable to overcome the many challenges he faced. He lost his battle in the hospital surrounded by his loving family.Tom began his life on September 4, 1949. He was the second son born to the Leonard Bauman Roper and Marjorie Ferrell Roper, M.D. He was one of four children.Tom graduated from Bullard High School in 1968, before going to Tyler Junior College, then to Texas A&M University. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science in 1972. He joined the United States Air Force in 1973, where he completed his pilot training, and served his country for six years. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, he took a job in Tyler, Texas as a private pilot which enabled him to bring his family back to his hometown of Bullard.He worked for the next 36 years as the pilot for Herd Producing Company up until his retirement in May 2017. After retirement, he worked as an entrepreneur and developed many businesses in effort to promote the growth of his beloved hometown. His love for Bullard was deep, and he was always committed to doing his part to make it a prosperous community for families. Tom's first passion was his family, but he was also very passionate about his work in his real estate company, Xcel Properties, and The Cherokee Travel Center, which opened in March 2017.Tom was preceded in death by his father Leonard Bauman Roper and his mother Marjorie Ferrell Roper, M.D. He is survived by his wife Linda Gaido Roper, his daughter Amy McKeethan and her husband Scott, daughter Angela Coats and her husband Doug, grandsons Matthew, Braydon and Andrew McKeethan, brothers Dan Roper and his wife Ann and Richard Roper and his wife Becky, sister Harriet Page and her husband David. Tom is also survived by numerous much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he held dear and considered very much a part of his family.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bullard Mission House, the Bullard Library, or the charitable organization of your choice.
