Vernice Cleon Green, known as Cleon by friends and family, age 64, went to heaven on October 4, 2021 surrounded by family in Tyler, Texas. Proudly named and known as Cleon after her beloved mother, she was born on July 31, 1957, in Houston, Texas to Charles “Charlie” William Green and Vernice Cleon (Oberst) Green. Cleon settled in Tyler where she worked as a respiratory therapist and raised her family. After a terrible car wreck, Cleon ceased working outside the home and fully dedicated herself to be the best mother she knew to be. She loved cooking, baking, hot summer days and most of all, her grandchildren. Through all of life's challenges she remained optimistic and cheerful and had a gift for encouraging those around her. In 2008, she moved to Nacogdoches for a short while before residing in San Antonio for almost 11 years, and finally back to Tyler earlier this year.
Cleon was preceded in death by her parents Charlie and Cleon Green, sister Cathy Green, and brother Willie Green. She is survived by her husband Richard Heruth Jr.; five daughters and their spouses, Amanda Kerner, Cathy Sullivan and Joey Sullivan, Karla Garrett and Dallas Garrett, Hannah Ireland and Michael Ireland, and Martha Howard and Kiersten Howard; 15 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; brother Russell Green, and many nephews and nieces.
After the passing of her dear sister Cathy, she fondly considered her nephew Paul McClinton, his wife Stephanie McClinton, and their four children as her own.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 18th, at The Chapel of Sts. Peter and Paul, located at 1435 ESE Loop 323, Tyler, TX 75701. Please wear bright colors in celebration of her heavenly reunion with her family and friends.
